A. Q.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Who is InterNIC?
The InterNIC (Network Solutions Inc.) is an independent
organization responsible for holding the registration and
routing of Internet domain names. Without these people it
would be virtually impossible to maintain a sense of sanity
on the Internet. The Web Hosting Internet Co. registers all
new domain names (.com, .net, .org) with InterNIC.
When my domain name is registered, who owns
the domain name?
You do. When we register your domain name with
the InterNIC, we will put you as the administrative and billing
contact. Whenever you want to make modifications with your
domain name, the administrative or billing contact is always
contacted first. Since The Web Hosting Internet Co. registers
your domain name, we will remain as the technical contact.
What is the fee regarding InterNIC domain
name registration?
New domain names registered after April 1, 1998
cost $70.00 good for the first two years. Each additional
year is $35.00 thereafter.
Do I have to pay the InterNIC fee?
Yes. Anyone who registers a new domain name with
a .com, Net, or .org extension (regardless of what web hosting
provider one goes through) MUST pay the InterNIC fee. There
is no way around this! InterNIC will invoice you within 30 days
upon the activation of the domain name.
If you do not get the invoice, please contact
the InterNIC directly! If the fee is not paid promptly, the
domain name will eventually get deleted from the InterNIC
database and another third party might then snatch your domain
name away from you!
How can I register foreign domain names (.uk,
.se, .ca, etc)?
The Web Hosting Internet Co. requires foreign
domain registration to be completed by the owner of the domain.
Please contact our technical support staff for information
that you will need when registering.
How long does it take for the world to access
my domain name?
We, of course, will setup your domain name on
our servers within 24 hours. While setting up your site, we
will simultaneously register your domain name with the InterNIC.
InterNIC takes less than 12 hours to complete new domain name
registrations (for the past few months, InterNIC registration
has been very swamped, so it's possible for it to take longer).
However after this time period, it truly depends on ALL networks
and ISPs of the world to update their servers and lookup your
new domain name. Some popular dial-up ISPs (i.e. Earthlink,
Slip.Net, Sprynet, Grid.Net) take less then 6 hours to update
their servers, while others will take more than 2 days. So
if you are still using a dial-up connection to the Internet,
make sure you have a reliable ISP that promply updates its
DNS servers, so you can access yourdomain.com right away.
What can I expect if I am transferring a domain
name to The Web Hosting Internet Co.?
Expect an email from InterNIC! If you have already
registered domain name, The Web Hosting Internet Co. will
handle your transfer. The Web Hosting Internet Co. will send
a modification template to InterNIC, and they will in turn
send confirmation of the request to the administrative, and
technical contact of the domain name involved. Only one person
must agree to the email and reply-back to the InterNIC for
the transfer to successfully go through.
Do I have to register my domain name with
InterNIC or do you do that for me?
We register your domain (www.yourdomain.com) for
you! Unlike other web hosting companies, we DO NOT charge
you to file your domain name. InterNIC is currently the organization
that registers domain names. They will bill you in the amount
of $70.00 which is good for the first two years. After two
years, they will bill you $35.00 for each additional year.
You are responsible for the $70.00 registration fee, due to
InterNIC in 30 days. You are the owner of your Domain name.
The Web Hosting Internet Co. only acts as a registering agent
and is listed as the Technical Contact.

What are FrontPage extensions and do you support
them?
If you use Microsoft FrontPage 98 to publish pages
to the Net, you will need FrontPage 98 extensions supported.
We support FrontPage 98 extensions FREE OF CHARGE.
Can I depend on fast downloading speeds when
others access my site?
YES! Our servers have a bandwidth-on-demand connection
with Frontier Global Center, a Tier 1 provider, servicing
such giants as Yahoo and Netscape. We are linked to FGC by
a fiber optic cable. Giving you incredible speed at all times!
Do you offer secure server space for transferring
credit card information?
YES! Our servers are equipped with the latest
SSL technology so your customers can safely order your products
or services online! Normally, any text sent from your browser
is sent as plain text. This means that a hacker could potentially
intercept the information sent from your browser and read
it.
By using the secure server (SSL), the information
is encrypted before it is sent. It would be practically impossible
for anyone to decrypt it without knowing the key. You DO NOT
have to buy a security certificate to enable the secure server
- you can use ours FREE of charge. We will provide you with
the name of the server when your account is activated!
What is a "parked" domain name and
how much does it cost?
Parked domains are aliases of other domains. For
example, say we have mary.com parked to your main account
at steve.com. This would mean that anyone who goes to mary.com
would automatically go to steve.com. There is no actual hosting
involved with mary.com. Mary.com merely acts as a nickname
to steve.com. Parked domains are available as an option and
the fee is $6.00 per month.
Can I upload pages frequently?
Each account comes with one FTP account. You have
full access to your space via FTP 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week so you can update your site at your leisure.
How much data transfer do you allow for my
web site?
All sites are monitored and any that are in violation
to the above, the account owner will be contacted via email.
The account in question will be subject to deactivation. NOTE:
Spammers get no warning of account deactivation!

A CGI-bin is where you would store CGI scripts.
These scripts; are used to generate online order forms, guestbooks,
shopping carts, counters, and more! YES, every account comes
with a local CGI-bin!
What CGI scripts come already installed?
At this time we do not provide any pre-installed
scripts - we are working toward adding scripts in the near future.
There are many sites on the net that provide many free, as well
as paid scripts. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO obtain permission
from the script owners in order to use the script on your site.
In Chapter Three of our Online Manual you will find instructions
and configurations for many of the free scripts located at Matt's Script Archives. You
can also visit Matt's site for more detailed configuration information

your customers email to you, you can set up an autoresponder
to email the customer a confirmation message. They're also known
as Infobots. There are many other uses for autoresponders/infobots,

the Internet but still have an email account such as Juno. Each
